Physical Education

All of our sports information can be found here on Sporty

Monday assemblies recognise players of the day in all sports including weekend club teams. We also acknowledge sporting achievement at assemblies throughout the year. We have a strong sporting culture at Silverstream with students performing well in school teams and in representative teams.  Sports on offer at school include: touch, netball, futsal and mini-ball.

Throughout the year we invite guest coaches in to run clinics with teachers and children. These include golf, tennis, hockey, cricket, squash and more.

We also compete in our local Taieri and Otago schools events including: swimming, athletics, cross-country and orienteering

EDUCATION OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM

We believe that learning through real life experiences is important.  Every term classes have experiences outside the classroom.  This includes EOTC providers Toitu, The Otago Marine centre, Otago Museum, Dunedin Art Gallery and also relevent local places (parks, pools, beaches, businesses, farms, gardens etc)

We also have AMAZING camp opportunities for our students. In years 3 and 4 they have an overnight stay at the Otago Museum and at Tirohanga camp.  In year 5 our students go for an overnight camp at Waihola.  In year 6 our children spend a week at Berwick camp.

DIGITAL TOOLS

We use Google Apps for education to support our learning at Silverstream.  There are 130 chromebooks in the Middle and Senior school and over 40 ipads in the Junior school.  Digital tools are used as an everyday part of children's learning.  Teachers use google apps to plan, assess and prepare material for learning.  Every class has a 60inch TV screen where digital content is shared to support learning. We have a 3D printer that is used by students to design and create.  We want our students to be digital citizens with confidence and capability in using digital tools.
